Shirley Boys' High School head shave fundraiser for CanTeen.
Canterbury
Shirley Boys' High School is running a fundraiser for CanTeen over the next few weeks. One person a week for the next two weeks will have their head shaved leading up to a final head shave day on the 29th of September. Students will raise money for CanTeen by shaving their head, with each student getting their heads shaved aiming to raise $40. You can donate directly to the SBHS CanTeen head shave fundraiser through this givealittle page. All donations will be greatly appreciated and make a big difference to someone's life.
Here is a story from a Year 12 in Auckland who went through cancer last year:
Hey! My name is Matthew Manukuo and I am 16 years of age. I was born in Auckland and am full Niuean. I attend Avondale College and am in year 12.
In February of 2016, I was unfortunately diagnosed with Brain Cancer having a tumour the size of a walnut in the middle of my brain. Thankfully, after 12 rounds of Chemotherapy, 20 radiation sessions and an 8 hour surgery on my brain, I was fortunate to have succeeded in defeating this sickness.
Through this unbelievable experience I gained a lot of knowledge about myself and also gained a different outlook on life. This year I began playing rugby league again and had the awesome opportunity to have articles from Stuff.co.nz and Auckland Rugby League published about my story.
Fortunately this opened a lot of doors sprouting my confidence with speaking and sharing my story with a lot of people. After promotional videos through CanTeen NZ I was blessed to be apart of, I was honoured to share my story through my Spoken Word piece named 'Fight To Survive' where I was blessed to meet the boys from Shirley Boys High on the set down in Christchurch.
I express my greatest gratitude toward Siaosi and _ for taking an opportunity and shaving their heads for a greater cause, it definetly impacted me a lot seeing these boys participate in such a thing.
I am organising this fundraiser for Shirley Boys' High School, I feel it is an excellent cause to get behind and support young New Zealanders and their families going through very tough times.
