My name is Shaayal Gounden....I am 23 years of age.

Born and raised in SOUTH AUCKLAND and I'm so proud to be a Miss Five Crowns New Zealand Finalist for 2017.

I have just completed my final year studying towards a Bachelor of Applied Management, doing a double major in event and tourism management.

Previous beauty pageant titles I've held: Miss Pre-Teen NZ, Miss South Auckland 2014, Miss World New Zealand Beauty with a Mission 2014, Miss Planet NZ 2014.

My hobbies include Indian dancing, socializing with friends, catching up with family, shopping with mum, and of course spending time with my gorgeous family, my husband Taufiq my little bundle of cuteness, my baby girl Ariana.

We are a beautiful little country filled with hopes and dream, ambitions and promise but also challenges. We are a nation with strength to overcome and unite in times of difficulty which is why I've chosen to enter Miss Five Crowns NZ. I believe if crowned Miss Five Crowns New Zealand it will help me create an influential platform for me to not only support Youthline and the many other charities close to my heart. Being a parent Baby Loss New Zealand is also close to my heart. Baby Loss New Zealand is an amazing organisation that helps create tangible memories for families that have lost their precious angels.

This is a land where culture echoes, tradition speaks, beauty mesmerises and diversity delights, We may be a small country but we sure are mighty and we are one that will never let another, dull our sparkle.

I am proud to be a part of the 2017 Miss Five Crowns New Zealand pageant but even more proud to be a New Zealander and super proud to be supporting Youthline.
