Help us raise some funds for the NZ Mental Health Foundation and have a conversation about mental health whilst we do The Push Up Challenge.
Nationwide
My cousin in Australia got me on to The Push Up Challenge which is an event that runs in July in support of an Australian mental health charity (Headspace). Participants are challenged to do 3,128 push ups over 21 days, representing the lives lost in Australia since 2017 as a result of mental illness.
I posted that I was doing the challenge to my work's (Spark New Zealand) Mental Health internal social media page. At Spark we are taking employee mental health increasingly seriously. There was interest from colleagues in both doing the challenge and suggestion of potentially raising some funds for a local charity.
We decided if we are going to raise funds, it would be great to support the NZ Mental Health Foundation as The Push Up Challenge is an Australian event in support of Headspace (an Australian mental health charity).
So whilst some of us challenge ourselves with some push ups (and pain), we hope to both have a conversation about the importance of mental health, as well as raise a modest amount for for the NZ Mental Health Foundation at the same time

A big thank you from me and the team to everyone who has donated. Including cash and payroll giving we’re at $807. I’m hoping to raise $1000 and tomorrow is the last day of push ups. So it would be great if we could find a few more generous folks to help bridge the gap. Even if we can’t I’m really stoked how this random personal fitness challenge has grown legs and become an expanding movement at Spark. We’ve seen a whole floor of people do >9,000 push ups as a team over the challenge period. I was personally looking forwards to a rest, but have just been challenged by a mate to do 200 a day for August. Might just give that a go... anyone keen? Haha :)
