Amy's early death may have been avoidable, Women are dying from ovarian cancer more than the New Zealand road toll, #Speakup For our Wahine
Taranaki
MY beautiful friend Pumba aka Amy lost her life in 2021 her to battle to ovarian cancer after being sent home from the emergency department and told she likely had chlamydia. in Jan 2021
Amy's early death may have been avoidable. Amy had suffered a torsional twisting of a 12cm ovarian cyst, ultimately bursting 1 month later, This could have been advoided if Medical staff would have listen to Amy and given her the scan she pleaded for. Another woman (Tash Crosby) spoke up and said Amy story was similar to hers She was sent home from the emergency department two times without a scan. The third time she refused to leave, and it was then her ovarian cancer was found.
“Women’s health is NOT taken seriously, One woman is diagnosed every day More women are struggling and are dying from ovarian cancer than the New Zealand road toll; melanoma; and other gynaecological cancers combined. SO why are we ( wahine/ woman) being miss diagnosed, We need more research done, With Ovarian cancer being something many people have never heard of it can take a lot longer to get diagnosed, survival rate is just 37% compared to 90% for prostate cancer.
Which is why I am Steping Up in February to show women they're not alone and help raise crucial funds for awareness, support, advocacy and research. So Woman like Pumba can stop being miss diagnosied and get the treatment they require.
February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Step Up for ovarian cancer to help us be there every step of the way.
