Nationwide
Kia Ora, my name is Markus and I arrived on the shores of New Zealand in 2013 after living and working in the UK for 10 years. Originally I am from Austria where I grew up and studied Medicine. I am quite enthusiastic about the great outdoors so a move to Aotearoa seemed like an excellent idea and remains one of the best decisions I have taken in my life to date. Normally I can frequently be found on one of the numerous hiking tracks or below the surface following my other big hobby scuba diving.
I admit that I hadn’t heard of the Tour of New Zealand or Unicorn Foundation at the beginning of this year. However, when my friends and fellow riders David and Marga told me about the event I signed up within a few days – reflecting my general spirit for new adventures. I haven’t participated in a multi-day cycling event before and it is now that the race is approaching fast that I am realising this will probably be a bit more of a physical challenge than I first thought. Nevertheless, I am enthusiastically looking forward to cycling along some of Aotearoa’s best alpine scenery and to hopefully really be able to contribute to the cause of the Unicorn Foundation with this fundraiser.
Funds raised will contribute towards supporting clinical research, lobbying for funding and further treatment options to become available to NZ neuroendocrine patients, NET nurse services and building and supporting the NET cancer community.
Denys takes first place! 19 April 2021
We weren't the biggest team on the Tour of NZ, but definitely a strong and dedicated team!
Congratulations Denys on the first place position! You were a well deserving category winner (as were all the category winners!) Also congrats to Kieran for his 4th place in individual men!
We hope our Unicorn Team have all had a well deserved rest over the weekend and enjoyed reflecting on the epic challenge you've just conquered!
Many thanks for the donations that are continuing to come in.
