THE RIFF RAFF 48 HOUR RUN 2023 - Fundraiser for Women's Refuge

OUR STORY

Last year we raised $14,099 for Gumboot Friday which provided over 100 free counselling session for kids all over Aotearoa! This year we have decided to run for Women's Refuge to stand with and support our Wahine. Below are some confronting stats provided to us by Women's Refuge NZ

- We receive an average of 71 crisis line calls a day.

- Every night more than 200 women and children are too afraid to stay at home.

- One in three of New Zealand women have experienced physical or sexual intimate partner violence. When psychological abuse is added it increases to one in two!

We are more than just a safe house, we advocate for women and children who have experienced family violence in whatever way we can. this includes taking them to the police station to make a statement, assisting them with getting protection orders, taking them to doctors appointments, going to the children’s school to chat with them about what is happening and much more.

-New Zealand is ranked as the worst developed country in the OECD for family violence.

We hope by raising awareness and being more accountable as men we can help to create safer and healthier environments for our women and children.
