Half marathon to support and strengthen local families

The Family Space is a community hub in the heart of Miramar that supports and strengthens local families. With a focus on building relationships, the Family Space:

• Works to support, train and equip parents and caregivers;

• Aims to meet identified needs by running a range of programs & services for children & adults;

• Helps people network with other organisations and the wider community;

• Provides a warm, friendly environment where family life is encouraged and nurtured.

The Family Space was established in 2007 and has grown to run programmes which are supported by five skilled staff-workers. It provides playgroups, parenting resources, courses, seminars and clothes swaps to enable families in the Southern suburbs to do their job well, knowing that healthy families are important for growing healthy children.

I am seeking assistance to maintain The Family Space programmes and improve its outdoor play area. I wish to ensure this a safe and enriching environment for the families who attend The Family Space.

The Family Space has received funds for a climbing structure but now need to purchase matting and shock pads to ensure the outdoor area meets current health and safety requirements.

The service-users have identified the need to enhance our outdoor area which will foster families’ growth and development at low or no cost to them. Whilst children learn and play, parents can make friends and gain links to wider networks that address disadvantage. Many of the attendees are from lower socio-economic and immigrant backgrounds and do not have the means to provide their children with pre-school education in the home due to factors such as stress, lack of finances or limited space.
