Raising money for the Heart Foundation in honour of my brother Matt who unexpectedly passed due to a heart condition called myocarditis.
Canterbury
On the 20th October 2020 we sadly lost my 19 year old brother Matt due complications from an undiagnosed heart condition called Myocarditis.
Myocarditis is a rare disease that causes inflammation of the heart muscle. This inflammation enlarges and weakens the heart, creates scar tissue and forces it to work harder to circulate blood and oxygen throughout the body. In Matts case this resulted in his heart stopping suddenly, leading to brain damage from lack of oxygen.
Myocarditis is mostly caused by viral infections and often symptoms aren't obvious. Although not common it mostly occurs in young, fit and healthy people. Because of this noone knew Matt had this condition and his passing came as such a shock to everyone who loves him. We miss him every single day, but we know he would want us to continue living life to the fullest.
In honour of Matt and the go getter he is I will be participating in the 'Pak N Save Triathlon' on the 28th November 2021. This includes a 750m swim in Lake Rua, a 21km Bike and a 5km Run. All money raised will go directly to the Heart Foundation of New Zealand.
The Heart Foundation invests in world-class cardiovascular research and works to improve heart disease prevention and care. The Heart Foundation relies on donations and gifts in wills to continue its work in research, education and health promotion.
Any little amount you can spare to go towards this amazing organisation is so appreciated. It could be your dad, brother, son or uncle.
