Walk for non-violence from Cape Reinga to Wellington

$10,250 of $10,000 goal
Given by 126 generous donors in around 9 months

We are walking from Cape Reinga to Wellington (1,500 km) in October to raise awareness and money for Women's Refuge.

Nationwide

Jason Tonkin and Abby Wendy are walking the Te Araroa trail from Cape Reinga to Bluff. We are doing the North Island half of the trail first and this will take two months to walk approximately 1,500 km from October 2019 to December 2019. We are doing the walk to raise awareness of the abuse and violence suffered in New Zealand and raise money for Women's Refuge New Zealand.

We are two survivors of abuse who want the future of New Zealand to be better than our past. It is difficult to hold conversations about the violence and abuse statistics in NZ and easier to turn away from past hurts or a blind eye to current problems. We need to talk this through, get educated about the issues and find solutions together. Its better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

Actions speak louder than words. We are giving two months of 2019 and 1,500 km of walking, please join and support our cause by giving a little, too, and your donation will go to help Women's Refuge and the 42 refuges across NZ where women and families can find safety when they need it most.

We have already started training on the great tracks in the Wellington Region and will blog on our training and progress at this facebook page:

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
