Walking 1300km down the length of the South Island on Te Araroa to help support a transitional housing provider
Tamaki, Auckland
Kia ora all!
My name is James Hancock and this summer I’m walking 1300km down the length of the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. Along the way, I’ll be raising money for the Island Child Charitable Trust (ICCT) in Tāmaki, Auckland.
Founded by its CEO Danielle Bergin MNZM in 2005, ICCT is a transitional housing provider that offers supportive housing, educational opportunities and wraparound support for homeless families needing a pathway to a sustainable, safe, secure, healthy and affordable home.
My research as a graduate student at the University of Auckland has been all about housing, and what we can do about the affordability crisis in our urban centres. Transitional and social housing make a critical contribution to our nation's housing solutions. That’s why I’m fundraising for Island Child Charitable Trust, which offers exemplary service to families needing housing support. I’ve visited one of their Tāmaki sites and have seen just how awesome their operation is, and how much good they’ve been able to do so far. Danielle and her team give everything to the work they do with whānau.
I want to raise at least $1 for every kilometre I walk: $1300. This money will go to ICCT to cover key expenses: cleaning supplies, linen, food, staff development, and educational and health program expenses for the homeless whānau - all things needed to sustain their 24/7 operations.
Cheers :)
James
