Fundraising for It's freezing in Ukraine. They need some New Zealand wool socks.

Wellington

Run #1 is 21km and will take place in Wellington, Round the Bays on 19th Feb. All funds raised will go towards Chris Childerhouse’s page which is fundraising for 10,000 pairs of thick NZ wool socks to be sent to Ukrainians who are enduring a cold winter as the war continues.

“For just $20 we can manufacture and send a pair of NZ wool socks to someone who really needs them. They might be a civilian trying to stay warm in a damaged building, or a soldier on the front line.

The socks will come in a variety of sizes, from kids to adults.”

The project has been supported by Mahi for Ukraine, who have connections at the Polish border and will ensure a safe and reliable transfer of the socks once they get to Poland from New Zealand.

About:

I am Ukrainian kiwi with family in Ukraine and Russia. Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine last year has personally affected me on a level where basic tasks such as eating, sleeping and continuing work became difficult. Running went out the window. I have recently started running again which has been incredibly good for my mental health. During my last run I had a thought - “what if I wasn’t just running for me, what if I was running for Ukraine?” I signed up for a half marathon with the aim of fundraising for Ukraine. A few more joined. Run for Ukraine was born.

Update 💙💛   6 July 2023

Wow! We were blown away by the response to our first #runforukraine fundraiser this year and wanted to say a massive thank you.

With your help we raised $1,885 in just 6 days! Almost 100 pairs of warm NZ merino wool socks were added to Chris Childerhouse's fundraiser thanks to you. A total of 1,385 pairs of NZ wool socks arrived in Poland in April. They were then transported to Ukraine and helped Ukrainians get through a cold winter. We have had direct communication from Chris, who wanted to pass on a massive thank you and let you know how amazing you all are.

Your support has been overwhelming. We are so proud of Aotearoa and its people, who continue to stand with Ukraine. As someone with direct links to the country - it is impossible to put into words how much your donations and ongoing support means.

Everyone survived the run and some are keen for more. The second run will take place in August, with the funds going towards the shipping costs of a 40ft container, which kiwis have filled with humanitarian aid over the last few months. Medicines, warm clothes, blankets and toys will be shipped directly to Ukraine from Auckland.

If you would like contribute to this great cause (which closes tomorrow) please visit our page: https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/running-for-humanitarian-aid.

Nga mihi nui Aotearoa
