The Auckland Refugee Family Trust raises funds to reunite refugee families.
Many refugees in New Zealand have been forced to flee their own country due to war and persecution.
Often they are alone or separated from family members who remain in unsafe situations overseas. They are desperate about the safety and survival of those relatives left behind and are unable to settle well until they are reunited.
The Auckland Refugee Family Trust raises funds to bring those families back together.
The process of family reunification for refugees is costly and lengthy. Once visas have been issued to the successful few, it is heart breaking when the last hurdle of securing money for the airfares proves insurmountable. Visas will expire if airfares cannot be purchased.
Trust funds are awarded to refugee applicants – as funds permit – whose immediate family members have been assessed and approved by New Zealand immigration service as having a valid case for reunification.

Warmest greetings and deepest gratitude to all our lovely supporters - from the Auckland Refugee Family Trust and all the families you have helped support this year. Here's just one story of many!
In one of the most urgent cases we've ever dealt with, we had a matter of days to help a family from Afghanistan join their loved one here in Auckland. The family included grown daughters - they were worried for the safety of the young women under Taliban rule and fled to Iran. With their NZ Permanent Residency confirmed but just days left on their Iranian visitor visas - we had very little time to arrange flights. Now reunited, our applicant had this to say to everyone who made this possible, "Thank you very much for your kindness and help. Now I am very happy with my family and my children are very happy here and we feel safe and calm together in New Zealand."

We would like to celebrate the fact that all of us together - trustees and supporters alike - can contribute in a practical way to the happiness of families who have been separated by war or politics.
