Big Brothers Big Sisters Wellington

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the leading youth mentoring organisation in the world. We brought it to the ‘coolest' (and windiest) little capital in the world in 2018, and made our first Big & Little match in February of 2019. Since then, we've matched 25 local deserving children with committed, reliable adult mentors.

Here at BBBS, we don't believe that our "Bigs" create potential in their "Littles" - they defend it. Potential is everywhere, in every kid - and by simply meeting with a local kid for one hour, once per week, our Bigs enable that kid to reach their goals and pursue their dreams.

Our vision is that all young people that need a mentor, have a mentor. Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people through strong, enduring, professionally supported mentoring relationships.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is New Zealand's largest mentoring programme. Our mentors provide support to a young person through a friendship-based relationship on a regular basis. Bigs help children reach their potential in leadership, education, and employment through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors.

And it works! By participating in our youth mentoring programme, Little Brothers and Sisters are:

- more confident in their school work

- able to get along better with their families

- more trusting of others

- more willing to express their feelings

- more likely to avoid illegal or risky behaviour

Your donations help us cover:

1. The cost to recruit, screen, train and supervise all volunteer mentors

2. The cost to interview and provide safety training to mentees & their families

3. On-going mentor training

4. Co-ordination and facilitation of group activities

5. Engagement with the Police, local schools, iwis, councils and key community agencies

6. Monitoring and evaluation of the matches to measure the impact and success of the programme and to ensure everyone involved is safe.
