Christchurch Aunties coordinate practical support for women and children displaced by family harm through advocating agencies in Canterbury.
Canterbury
When women and children arrive at refuges, they often arrive with nothing more than they are wearing.
Christchurch Aunties, with the aid of a network of over 6300 volunteers and supporters, have become the vital link to more than 19 service providers in the family harm sector by sourcing donations to match requests from refuges and support agencies. Items such as; basic toiletries, mobile phones, security cameras, furniture, bedding, whiteware, Safelets and essential kitchen items.
We also support community organisations in Christchurch such as Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust, Dress For Success and PIPS, whose kaupapa is closely aligned with ours. We collaborate where possible to ensure our service is as comprehensive as possible and connect with charities such as Butterfly Books and The Period Place.
Our mahi is simple, we get stuff done!
Providing basic essentials for women and children to start again reduces the mental load when deciding to move to a brighter future, free from abuse.
Let's do this together.
The Christchurch Aunties provides practical support and donations to women and children who have experienced family violence and hardship through multiple agencies we collaborate with in Canterbury.
Funds raised will be used to purchase food and clothing vouchers for the women and children at the refuges, and those who are starting their new homes.
