Supporting the transformation of Pacific communities

International

Fruit of the Pacific (FOP), a NZ based charitable trust, endeavors to support the transformation of Pacific communities to places where men, women, and children all thrive in an environment of honor and prosperity.

We are privileged to partner with Pacific workers that come to work in NZ for 3-6 months of each year under a government labour mobility policy known as the Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) scheme. We engage with these seasonal migrants to develop skills and community development projects so that, when they return home, they are empowered to be active participants in their community’s development, by implementing their new knowledge.

We believe the essence of community transformation is individual transformation so our process is to work with these groups of individuals, believing that their growth will inspire others to greater places too.

Over the last 8 years, FOP has built strong relationships with seasonal workers from Vanuatu, with a significant number coming from the island of Tanna. It has successfully delivered a number of key programmes in NZ and facilitated the implementation of both development and rebuild projects in Vanuatu, including Vanuatu Oral Health Awareness (VOHA), Storian Blo Helti Tut and Te Puke Tanna Together (TTT).

TV3 Story profiled The Te Puke Tanna rebuild projects in March this year and can be watched by using this link: http://www.newshub.co.nz/tvshows/story/building-earthships-to-withstand-vicious-storms-2016022320#axzz411iSpvCY

Our documentary "Yu Me Gat Wan Big Fella Smile" highlights our community health promotion model in action ... http://www.fruitofthepacific.org/oral-health.html

In our 5-year strategic pathway we are carrying the successful elements of the rebuild projects through to a focus on resilience and regeneration; cultivating RSE champions who bring positive transformation to their communities.

Our current fundraising is geared toward supporting specific Te Puke Tanna rebuild projects. If you would like to ensure your donation is targeted towards a specific project, please note the project in your donation comments. Eg:

"Water filters" - for your contribution to water filters and kindy supplies for young children on Tanna

"Earthship" - for your contribution to resources for our showhome build

"Health Champions" to support the Ni Van team on board Pacific Hope, promoting health in the islands of Vanuatu.
