Rescuing good kai fast and getting it to locals who need it. Fight waste, feed people, fuel hope.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Kairos Food Rescue is a Christchurch-based charity on a mission to reduce food waste and ensure good kai reaches the people who need it most. Every day, perfectly edible food is thrown away across our city—while many whānau struggle to put meals on the table. We exist to bridge that gap with compassion, dignity, and community spirit.
Our team rescues surplus food from supermarkets, growers, cafés, and distributors across Canterbury. Instead of going to landfill, this food is sorted, shared, and redistributed to local families, community groups, schools, and frontline organisations who support those doing it tough. The kai is free, accessible, and offered without judgement—because everyone deserves good, nourishing food.
With the help of volunteers, partners, and everyday supporters, we move thousands of kilos of rescued kai every week. But demand continues to grow. Your contribution helps us keep our vans running, our shelves stocked, and our doors open to those who rely on us. It also helps us expand our reach, strengthen community resilience, and reduce the environmental impact of food waste.
By donating, you’re not just giving food—you’re giving hope, connection, and a more sustainable future for Canterbury. Thank you for standing with us and making a real difference in the lives of our neighbours.
Kairos rescues food from supermarkets, cafes, farms and restaurants, and distributes it to food banks, community groups, and churches across Christchurch, ensuring it reaches the people who need it the most.
