Lower Hutt Community Foodbank - Helping people in need since 1986
Since 1986 the Lower Hutt Community Foodbank has been responding to people's immediate needs through the provision of free emergency food parcels. And because we believe in helping people by giving them a 'hand-up' and not just a 'hand-out', we also refer them to other community support organisations when additional assistance is required.
Our database has details of over 2600 households representing more than 3300 adults and 4000 children. Each of these households has received at least one parcel from the Foodbank since January 2010. The Foodbank has distributed over 14,600 parcels from January 2010 to end June 2014. The estimated dollar value of all food parcels distributed totals over $1.9M.
The Lower Hutt Foodbank Committee would like to thank all those who have donated much needed food and funds to the Lower Hutt Foodbank over the past few months. The charity expressed by businesses and individuals within the Hutt community is truly humbling.
In October we re-established our operation within new premises on Dudley Street Lower Hutt as we had to vacate our former home at the back of the Horticultural Hall due to the earth-quake strengthening work being carried out on Council buildings.
The demands on the Foodbank leading up to the Christmas holiday season have traditionally been very high and this year has been no exception. In the past week we have distributed close to 100 food parcels feeding approximately 500 adults and children. Your donations help make this possible.
The Foodbank Committee would like to wish all our supporters a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
