MRDA, a voluntary organisation providing equine-based programmes for riders to develop increased strength, independence, self-esteem & more
Marlborough
Marlborough Riding For the Disabled (MRDA) provides individual goal-based equine therapy and riding programmes to help people in our community who are living with disabilities. We offer programmes for children, youths and adults and have approximately 60 riders per term.
Our Early Intervention programme is the only one like it in NZ and caters for children aged 1-8 years, this programme also offers whanau and caregivers to join and becomes a play group and support group for those caring for children with disabilities.
Our riders benefit from equine therapy in many ways including improving strength, balance, flexibility, confidence, self-esteem and social interaction. We have three core programmes; therapy, education and sports & recreation. Our sports & recreation programme is for our more independent riders and a great pathway to the Special Olympics programme.
Marlborough RDA provides interaction with horses to improve health & wellbeing outcomes for people experiencing disability, or who have specific challenges or needs living in the Marlborough region.
Our vision is to Reach more Riders, Change more Lives
