Netsafe New Zealand

Netsafe New Zealand

Netsafe helps Kiwis experiencing online harm and provides online safety education and assistance nationwide.

Nationwide

Netsafe is a national, not-for-profit organisation that has been supporting New Zealanders for 25 years with a single mission: to help people stay safe online.

As our world becomes increasingly digital, this mission has never been more important. Every day, people across Aotearoa, New Zealand encounter online scams, bullying, child grooming, impersonation, and threatening behaviour. These incidents can lead to significant financial loss, emotional distress, and serious long-term impacts.

When harm happens, Netsafe is often the first place people turn to. Our free online harm helpline provides confidential advice, support and dispute resolution services five days a week. Each year, we receive and respond to more than 28,000 reports of online harm.

Alongside our helpline, we work with schools, whānau, and community groups nationwide to deliver online safety education and practical resources that empower people of all ages to navigate the digital world safely.

Our work is wide-reaching—and the need is growing. With your support, we can help more New Zealanders and ensure a safer online experience for everyone.

Your donation powers what’s next  2 December 2025

Kia ora and thank you for backing Netsafe. Your support keeps online safety help free for people across Aotearoa, and it’s driving our next wave of work. Including:

Digital Guardians Guide (coming soon)

An interactive and comprehensive toolkit for parents and whānau with clear, non-judgy advice and simple steps to build safer digital habits at home.

Scam Support and Rapid Response

Scams are growing and changing fast. This service isn’t funded right now, we’re doing it anyway, but stretched. Donations let us create fresh scam resources, issue timely alerts, and support people with “what to do next” when they’re targeted.

Youth-led initiatives nationwide

We’re supporting rangatahi from across NZ to take part in our Youth Action Squad to co-design resources and initiatives that reflect real online life. Funding covers workshops, collaboration, and youth-driven content.

AI companions: emerging harm

Chatbot “friends” are booming, and we’re seeing risks like dependency, sexualised content, manipulation, and unsafe advice. We’re researching NZ impacts and building guidance and response pathways.

Rising harms: sextortion

Sextortion is escalating, especially for young people. We’re strengthening prevention through campaigns, school/whānau guidance, and support pathways so targets can act early and safely.

Thank you for making this possible. If you can donate again or share this page, you’re helping keep more people safe online.
