Our last tribal herd of Nati horses is currently being threatened by loss of habitat, climate change and the loss of Ngati Porou culture and identity.
We are currently working with our kaumatua (elders) and land owners to develop a breeding programme to ensure the Nati is preserved for future generations.
With every horse that comes into our care, our goal is to rehabilitate them back to health and to then be adopted into a perfect, forever home. In order to achieve our mission to preserve the Nati for future generations, we have set up this page to raise funds.
Become An Angel Sponsor
Basically, a sponsor is a horse’s angel. An angel sponsors help provides for the needs of a specific Nati horse through directed monthly or one-time donations. This helps the horses because our general funds are almost always used up on hay, vaccines, farrier service, dewormer, emergency vet visits, winter coats, summer coats and critical rehabilitation costs. There might not be enough left over to elevate the quality of care for another individual to what they would get if they were, say, an “only horse.” For example, we anticipate rescuing horses in the Waiapu valley with severe nutrition needs.
Angel Sponsor benefits?
Angel sponsors benefit by knowing their dollar is supporting a Nati horse of their choice, whether by providing something as simple and vital as food, or by making it possible for a rescue horse to live better and longer. Sponsorship is a great way of having your “own” horse if you can’t keep one where you live.
How does Angel sponsorship work?
Some of these horses are really emaciated and will benefit from nice nutritional hay bought by a sponsor as well as enable us to purchase special supplements, blanket and other useful items.
Angel sponsors send in a monthly amount or a one-time directed donation, with the horse’s name on the memo line of the check or online/AP payment. That money is used for rehabilitation and upkeep of the specified Nati horse. Sponsors may help from a distance, or schedule visits to Nati Stables and enjoy a hands-on relationship with “their” horse if they choose. Such interactions are only available to angel sponsors who will need to sign a volunteer waiver and learn about safety working around/with horses.
Other Sponsor Options
There is no set sponsorship fee requirement, however your sponsorship will be absorbed in our general charitable trust funds. You can also make a one-off donation now. Though making and keeping a commitment for several months or a year would help us with budgeting, sponsors may contribute any amount they wish and stop sponsoring the horse at any time.
Sponsors receive pictures and updates on the horse’s progress and doings.
