The Plains Railway Museum

The Plains Railway Museum

We've been preserving Mid-Canterbury's Heritage for over 40 years and are home to the Ashburton Districts only vintage railway and heritage

Canterbury

Providing a look back through the ages for young and old and showing people how things used to be done by running our railway and putting our vintage machinery collection to use

We've been around since 1971 and have a long and varied track record, most notably, perhaps, the restoration to working order of Rogers K 88 retrieved from a riverbed in Southland in the 1970's and fully restored to operating order twice.
