Canterbury

Woolston Boxing Club Incorporated was established in 1967 by the late Ron Mitchell, Woolston have a long and proud history within NZ boxing circles. Woolston is affiliated to the Canterbury Boxing Association Inc and compete at local and national tournaments held under Boxing NZ Inc.

At Woolston we teach the skills, techniques and discipline an individual requires in order to be an amateur boxer. You can box from the age of 10 up to 40 in the points based sport. Our boxers are well protected (our boxers always wear head gear, mouth guards and protection whilst training and in the ring) we also have excellent referees and judges, who ensure the protection of our boxers. We have a passionate team; we train hard together and always work as a team in order to achieve the best possible results.

The areas surrounding Woolston are low economic and the few surroundings schools are low docile, even docile one in some cases, subsequently the families do not have the money to provide extra entertainment or luxuries. All the coaches’ work together to keep the gym open for five classes per week during the school term period. We have a great team at Woolston.

Our after school Youth program established in 2015 runs from 4.30pm to 5.30pm Mondays and Wednesdays during the school term. This is our grounding class where the young athletes from age 8 years to 16 years can come and develop amateur boxing skills, techniques, get fit and have some fun in a safe controlled environment. This class continues to grow in size with great returning numbers.

Our classes are run and lead by volunteer coaches we have a large crew of awesome coaches whom work together extremely well helping achieve awesomeness for our athletes.
