Achilles Mission: To give people with disabilities an opportunity to participate in mainstream events. The goal of the HOPE and POSSIBILITY
Nationwide
On 2 November 2014, 9 disabled athletes from Achilles New Zealand will be lining up on the start line of the New York Marathon ready to take on the challenge of a lifetime. This achievement will be life changing for them, and for those that they inspire!
The support and commitment that Achilles NZ provides enables numerous kiwi's with disabilities to enjoy the delight and self-satisfaction of participating in mainstream running events.
Achilles welcomes and encourages anyone with a disability or physical challenge to RUN!
In Achilles parlance, running means many things. It means conventional running, of course. But it also refers to walking, wheeling, hopping, or swinging through crutches. In other words, any form of locomotion that gets you through the route!
Physical challenges include, but are not limited to, amputation, cerebral palsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis, organ transplants, paraplegia, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment.
