Wellington
Team ActiveBible will be participating in the Gazley Volkwagon's Wellington Marathon on the 26 of June 2016.
They are raising money to help fund Bible distribution projects to children and youth in war-torn Syria. More information about this project is available via the gallery and updates tab and these will be updated regularly.
Members of the team have registered for various events like the marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5km and kid's magic mile.
They're training hard for this event and part of their motivation in joining is their desire to see the Bible transform people's lives.
Please help the team reach their goal by donating through this givealittle cause page or you can also sign up to run and walk with the team and become a givealittle fundraiser. Just click the Fundraise Now button to get started.
We are a charity dedicated to helping make the Bible accessible to everyone and encouraging interaction with it. We do this by working with the whole Christian church.
Bible Society was established in New Zealand in 1846 and is a member of the United Bible Societies (UBS), a global network of Bible Societies operating in more than 200 countries and territories. Bible Societies co-operate to make the Bible available to people everywhere in a language they can understand and at a price they can afford.
We are a donor-supported organisation that depends on the prayers and financial support of Christian individuals and churches in New Zealand.
Bibles needed in war-torn Syria by by Andrea Rhodes of United Bible Societies 21 April 2016
"The hope of the children in Syria is now negligible, there are no future expectations, and their country is being injured and torn." Nearly five years into the conflict in Syria, which has killed or displaced half the population, staff members of the Bible Society there are continuing their ministry to provide Scriptures for all who need them.
“The thirst for Scriptures among Christians here has only increased with all the unrest,” notes the local Bible Society Director, who, along with other staff members, has stayed on despite the dangers.
“The past five years have been very traumatic for Syrians in general, and for Syrian Christians in particular. Every family has a sad story. With this loss of hope, people are turning to God’s Word for comfort and encouragement.”
While nearly 4 million Syrians have fled their country, another 7.6 million have been internally displaced, leaving their bombed and besieged towns and villages to shelter in safer areas. Many are living in overcrowded houses and apartments with friends or family members, or with others who have opened their homes to them.
