Fundraising for talented young NZ biology students to represent NZ at a prestigious international competition.
Nationwide
Sarah Ellis, Janet Guo, Jacob Miller, & Richard Li are our top NZ secondary school biologists and have been studying hard for the last two years to represent NZ at the International Biology Olympiad competition in Armenia in July. https://ibo2022.org/en/
This prestigious competition brings the best young biologists from more than 75 countries around the world together to compete and inspire, empower and support the next generation of leaders in the life sciences. It is a life-changing experience and NZ 'punches above it's weight', winning medals every year. The normal government funding is on hold due to COVID and these ordinary, hardworking and talented NZ students need $56,000 just for travel, as there are so few flights and routes available. A pretty difficult task to fundraise such a large amount in just 7 weeks. Please help these wonderful young students represent NZ, they will do us proud!
NZIBO fosters excellence in biology providing University level Biology education to 100's of our top NZ secondary students & selecting a team of 4 to represent NZ at the prestigious annual International Biology Olympiad. (CC41716, NZBN 9429043197804).
Team registration, airfares, accommodation, meals for the NZ team to attend the IBO in Armenia in July 2022. Any money raised in excess of what is needed to attend the competition will be used for the NZIBO programme, benefiting 100's of talented students.
Pre-departure training camp 20 June 2022
The team has just completed a fantastic 3 days at the University of Auckland, School of Biological Science. We were focused on learning new lab skills and honing existing skills. Thanks so much to the team; Julie McIntosh, Chris Squires, and Jenn Jury for their support and outstanding teaching. The team covered microbiology, including the Kirby-Bauer method for determining antibiotic resistance, ELISA and pipetting practice, an ATPase laboratory, development and biostatistics.
Thank you so much. We are almost ready thanks to the generous donations of people like you. We leave on Sunday so it is getting very exciting now. I know the team will represent NZ so well.
Helen, thank you the donations from our alumni have been the difference between the team being able to compete and not. We are really grateful
