Donate to support victims of the horrific Canterbury shootings.
This is the official Victim Support donation page for victims of the Canterbury shootings.
Dozens of families have been bereaved and many more injured by today's horrific shootings. They deserve our help and support! All donations received to this page will be used to provide support and resources for people affected by the Christchurch shootings and their family members.
UPDATE 1:
In light of the generous response towards Victim Support's Givealittle Page, Spark Foundation have decided to sponsor the service fee of this page (excluding third party transaction costs). The service fee contribution from Spark Foundation will be donated directly to Victim Support to coincide with the page payment.
UPDATE 2:
Thanks to those who have asked for more detail around how these funds will be used to support victims and their families.
We want to be really clear about this, this money is being ring-fenced and is NOT for Victim Support's regular operating costs.
There will be many needs that victims have - some financial, some for support, and many other needs too. It is important that there is enough flexibility in the fund criteria that we can respond to those needs at they continue to emerge, whatever they may be. We are still in the immediate aftermath of the event and distribution criteria are currently being developed as quickly as possible.
We've been overwhelmed with donations - more than we thought possible - and we now need to create more formal processes than would be needed for the much smaller fund we expected this page would create. It's going to take some time to do this, but we’re committed to an open and inclusive process and we'll keep you updated on our website http://www.victimsupport.org.nz.
Our latest update can be viewed here: http://www.victimsupport.org.nz/an-update-on-our-givealittle-page/
UPDATE 3:
Thank you to everyone who contacted us to ask questions about our Christchurch Shooting Victims’ Fund. To help answer some of your questions we have put together some FAQs. They can be found on our website here:
http://www.victimsupport.org.nz/faqs-about-our-christchurch-shooting-victims-fund/
We have been overwhelmed by the ongoing generosity of New Zealanders and the world and thank everyone who has given so far.
UPDATE 4:
We are delighted to let you know that the entire service fee for every donation (including third party transaction costs) will now be passed on to Victim Support's Christchurch Shooting Victims' Fund! Transaction costs are being covered by Westpac and Payment Express, meaning and the whole 5% will be passed on.
Thank you to Westpac NZ and Payment Express, and Spark Foundation who are covering the service fee for this page.
We would also like to thank Givealittle's technology partner Amazon Web Services who are sponsoring the infrastructure upgrade our platform needed to support the unprecedented levels of traffic and donations we are experiencing.
UPDATE 5:
Victim Support Appeal Update: Almost $1.7 million paid to Christchurch victims so far.
“Every day we are seeing the huge impact the public’s generosity is having for victims, from having loved ones able to visit from overseas, to simple things such as relieving the stress of the weekly grocery shop.”

UPDATE 6 (10 May 2019):
Thank you for your incredible generosity! By next week, we will have released $7 million of support directly to victims. Today we released our Fund Plan, which you can read about here: http://www.victimsupport.org.nz/victim-support-outlines-fund-plan-for-victims-of-christchurch-attacks/
We are there to support and care for the people of Aotearoa who have been victims of crime, loss or trauma.
We will provide support in ways that restore mana, belonging and well-being.
Our free service provides emotional and practical support, information, financial assistance, referral to other support services and advocacy for the rights of victims.
This support helps victims find strength, hope and safety in the face of grief and trauma. We make bold promises to our communities:
We will be there 24 / 7 to help as people deal with or aftermath of crime and trauma.
We promise to make a positive difference to shattered lives.
We promise that in times of trouble we will make sure people get the help they need to be safe, to find healing, and to navigate the justice system.
To live up to these promises our services are available nationwide through a national / regional structure.
Our direct service to victims is primarily delivered by volunteer Support Workers who are managed and supervised by paid staff coordinators, who provide debriefing, supervision, case management, coaching and regular training to the volunteer Support Workers.
Victim Support will use all donations received to this page to provide support and resources for people affected by the Christchurch shootings and their family members.
Victim Support Update: The last distribution of donated funds 28 June 2019
An update to all generous donors,
Yesterday, Victim Support announced the last distribution of donated funds to victims of the Christchurch Mosque Attacks.
Once again, we express our sincere thanks for the gift you have given to help those suffering such devastating grief and loss.
Your gift has not only touched the lives of the victims, but sent a strong message of unity and solidarity to the world. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Over four lump sum payments, your donations have now been used to provide amounts across four categories:
· $90,000 for each bereaved family
· $51,000 for each victim shot
· $34,000 to other victims injured
· $17,000 to other victims present in the mosques at the time of the attacks
We will be disbursing the final payments to victims from today.
In addition to the lump sum payments, $1.6 million was spent on victim grants to cover emergency costs like funerals, travel for family members, groceries, childcare, and more.
Finally, we will hold a small contingency to cover victims yet to be identified by Police. Any contingency not used by the first anniversary of the attacks will be handed over to the Christchurch Foundation for victims' long-term support.
