Caring for the abused and neglected German Shepherds in NZ
Auckland
Today we picked up this 11 month young girl who has no name. She has what appears to be some congenital deformity from birth so her right leg is useless. Very shy and hasn't had much attention so the vet visit wasn't that successful. New home will look at putting some much needed weight then it will be x-rays, CT and major surgery to remove the leg. We are waiting for an estimate but expect it to be around $5-6 000 for surgery. Anyone wishing to donate towards helping this wee girl bank account details below. As subject please put in tripod ( waiting for foster parents to name her).
We are hoping surgery can go ahead in the next week or so weight dependant
We are an registered charitable trust finding homes for German Shepherds who have been neglected, abandoned. or at risk of euthanasia rather than providing medical care.
Medical care, CT, registration, vaccination, microchipping, surgical amputation
Update 25.3.2023 25 March 2023
Luka has settled down a lot with her nervous behaviour and we finally were able to have a physical exam done at the vet with her vaccinations being completed and blood tests taken. We received the Give a Little donations last Thursday, as they pay out after the 20th of the month following the donations being received. In the interim she has had a hard to control urine infection, clearing after antbiotics but returning just days after stopping. As this has happened a few times too many, urine sent to the lab for culture to make sure the right antibiotic is being prescribed. Unfortunately while she has an active infection surgery of any type is off the table. Just got word that her blood tests are all in normal range, which gives hope there is not any serious infective element. Her appetite is not the greatest, definitely not food driven, but this is understandable with a urine infection. We are doing what we can in her best interests and looking forward to the day that she is clear to proceed with the important issue of sorting out the issue with her leg.
Thank you so very much for your kindness, we hope to have an update soon.
