Help Caroline to see her kids through

Caroline is a resident of Auckland, with two kids who lost their father to suicide in 2013.

Caroline was diagnosed with a brainstem cavernoma in January 2021. Since then she's had several bleeds and surgery on her brain - (Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy.) She had been told that she was unable to have surgery to remove the cavernoma in New Zealand.

At the time of creating this page, Caroline was looking to have the surgery performed privately in Sydney, as the cost was beyond her, having been quoted by the Australian surgeon about $65,000. That figure covered the cost of surgery, aftercare, physio etc. The actual cost of surgery was less, (see the pictures attached) but the cost of physio and after surgery, flights, accommodation was higher.

As of March 15th 2023, Caroline has just received the news that her NZ Neurosurgeon is now prepared to risk the operation in New Zealand, due to the severity of Caroline's deteriorating health.

This is massive news as it means Caroline no longer has to raise funds to have the surgery done privately in Australia.

Although the surgery itself will now be covered by the public health system, Caroline's financial needs are still significant. Donations on this page will continue to serve the purpose of supporting Caroline's two kids during this time, along with other expenses associated with surgery and recovery that aren't covered.

Caroline remains, of course, unable to work at this time and for the duration of her recovery period.
