Gucci the cat has been shot near her home and requires extensive surgery to repair her shattered leg.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Gucci is a beautiful Bengal cat who lives with her family just outside Palmerston North. On Tuesday 5th May she was found in the bushes near her home badly injured and her family was shocked to discover that she had been shot.
Gucci is currently at Massey University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The bones in her leg have been shattered and she requires extensive surgery to repair them. The estimate for this is over $2,000*, which will be an added stress the family doesn't need right now.
We are horrified that someone in our community has injured someone's pet in such a way. We would appreciate any financial assistance for the family.
*Costs are at $2,425 as of 09/05/20. Follow up costs are expected to be $700 in the best case scenario.
Outpawed is a charitable trust. We are involved in the care and management of stray, abandoned and community cats in the Wellington and Manawatu region. Our goal is to improve the lives of domestic felines.
Funds raised will be used to pay for Gucci's surgery and follow-up veterinary care. Any excess funds will be donated to an animal charity.
Gucci's surgery was successful 9 May 2020
We are so blown away by the number of kind people who have helped with Gucci's costs.
Gucci's surgery cost $1,996.40 and her initial consult and x-rays cost $429.10, bringing the total costs so far to $2,425.50. Gucci will require vet visits every fortnight for the next 8 weeks to check on her progress and the estimate for her follow-up treatment at Massey is $500. In the best case scenario Gucci's costs will be about $3,200.
This photo is Gucci recovering in her crate, where she will spend the next 8 weeks. You can see part of the framework helping to keep the fragments of bone pinned in place. The risk for infection is there but Gucci is being carefully managed while her leg (hopefully) heals. With any luck she won't experience any complications.
