Six-week-old Midnight needs life-saving surgery and follow up treatment at Massey for a rare condition she was born with.
Wellington
Midnight was born without a tail and not enough bones in her spine. At 6 weeks of age she was rushed to the vet with severe constipation. She was found to have no anus, and her foster mum was told she would either have to be euthanised or taken to Massey. So off to Massey it was, where Midnight was assessed for her suitability for surgery.
Imaging revealed that Midnight had no anus and had a fistula connecting her rectum to her vulva. Her colon was very distended from being backed up. The vet team at Massey was hopeful that Midnight would pull through a reconstructive surgery, and she did! But now we need to raise approximately $1800 to cover her costs. It's now a waiting game to see how well she recovers and whether she will be able to toilet normally.
Update: Midnight has been diagnosed with Atresia Ani, which is a congenital defect where the animal is born without an anus. The team at Massey surgically created an anus for her and removed the fistula. She may require further surgery but this will not be known for several weeks to months.
Midnight is in the care of The Outpawed Rescue Trust.
Outpawed is a charitable trust. We are involved in the care and management of stray, abandoned and community cats in the Wellington and Manawatu region. Our goal is to improve the lives of domestic felines.
Funds raised will go towards Midnight's surgery and follow up vet care.
