Mana has Stage 3, Anaplastic T-Cell Alk Positive Lymphoma, lets help him get the drugs he needs to beat this rare and aggressive cancer.

Auckland

Mana McKenzie is an adored brother, partner, son, cousin, uncle and friend.

On the 25th of January 2019 Mana McKenzie aged 25, a fit, healthy builder went to A&E with severe stomach and back pain. Ten days later he was diagnosed with Stage 3, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and started chemotherapy that day.

Mana has Anaplastic T-Cell Alk Positive Lymphoma, a relatively rare and aggressive cancer. We are lucky enough to receive chemo treatments in the public health system in New Zealand. However, there have been significant scientific advances with a new drug called Brentuximab, this drug specifically targets the cancer and significantly improves the chance of success in beating this disease.

This drug is not yet publicly funded, but it is fortunately available through the private health system, at a considerable cost. It will be approximately $235,000 for 6 treatments across 6 months. This is over and above what Mana’s health insurance will pay.

Mana’s parents are financially supporting him during this time, but we need help to fund this treatment.

He is currently undergoing an aggressive chemotherapy treatment and unable to do building work which he loves. If we can help Mana get this new treatment it will increase his chances of beating this cancer dramatically and get some normality back to his life.

For those of you that know him, Mana isn’t one to ask for help, he is always the one giving a hand so now it’s our turn to help him out.

Mana is the most selfless person you’ll meet, kind natured, loving, generous and hard working. Let’s all help make a difference so he can go on to live the future he deserves.

Thank you so much, your support means the world.

Love Lior Ben-Harosh, Ahi McKenzie, whānau and friends of Mana

Remission!  22 October 2019

Tēnā koe me ngā tini āhuatanga o te wā.

It has been over 8 months since I started chemotherapy for Non Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Now that all the dust has settled I wanted to write to you and thank you very much for your support over this time. As I’ve said over and over again I was able to be positive and strong in my approach to the treatment all thanks to you and I truly believe that made a huge difference in the fight.

My family and I are forever grateful and conscious of how lucky we are to have such a large giving and loving whānau and community of friends and friends of friends. It still to this day continually blows my mind!

As many of you know but some may not, I was able to complete treatment and achieve remission. This is a massive step and from here I will be having regular check ups to track my health, but otherwise all good news!

Thank you again for your contribution. We couldn’t have got to this point without you.

This experience was literally life changing, and I can happily say for the better now. I owe a lot of this to you guys.

Thanks heaps from me, but also from Gail, Ian, Lior, Ahi, Paul (& Mino)

Chur xx
