Congratulations to Garin College 10 November 2009
For Hoodie Day 2009 NZAAHD asked schools and community groups to look a little closer and see the goodie in the hoodie. We wanted to celebrate all the positive contributions young people make in their communities every day around the country. Several schools held Hoodie Day mufti days and all over people dawned their hoodies in support of young people and raised funds for NZAAHD. In total close to $4,000 was raised to help NZAAHD support groups all around Aotearoa who work with young people. Garin College in Nelson was the winner of our competition and today we flew their representative Nic Barkley up to Wellington to attend our event with Age Concern New Zealand as part of Age Concern Awareness Week. 10% of funds raised on Hoodie Day was presented to Age Concern to show the support young people have for older people. On the day itself Age Concern members showed their support for young people by dawning their hoodies, many of you will have seen the images in your newspapers but link here to see more. Nic and his fellow students at Garin College raised close to $400 for NZAAHD and the whole school picked up on the message of Hoodie Day, with several of the teachers wearing their hoodies to school that day as well. We would like to make special mention of Marlborough Girls College for their enormous efforts in raising money for NZAAHD. A big thanks to all organisations and individuals that gave on Hoodie Day, your support for NZAAHD is very much appreciated. We look forward to Hoodie Day 2010!
