Kaikoura Historical Society's 50th anniversary commemorative photograph book

$815 of $3,000 goal
Given by 17 generous donors in around 3 months

To mark 50 years of the Kaikoura Historical Society we plan to publish a commemorative book of photographs celebrating Kaikoura's history.

Canterbury

2018 marks 50 years since the establishment of the Kaikoura Historical Society. Since 1968 this visionary group has achieved many great milestones including setting up Kaikoura's first Museum in 1971 and more recently bringing to life the award winning new Museum in Kaikoura's West End. They have literally saved our district's history from fire, flood and a 7.8 earthquake and they continue to govern Kaikoura Museum on behalf of our community. We feel this deserves recognition.

To mark this special event we are planning to publish a commemorative book of photographs celebrating Kaikoura's wonderful and diverse history.

Your donation will help fund the design, printing and publishing of this book.

Kaikoura Museum is well known for its extensive photograph collection, depicting every aspect of our unique history, so we feel this book will be a fitting tribute to the 50 years of dedication the Kaikoura Historical Society has given to saving and celebrating our history.

About us

Kaikoura Museum collects, preserves, manages and presents items and stories of importance to the Kaikoura District to promote interest in and learning about our unique natural, cultural and social heritage.

Use of funds

Your donation will help fund the design, printing and publishing of the commemorative photograph book. If here is any funding surplus it will go towards a picnic/gala we are planning for October 2018 so our community can celebrate this event together.

Photograph Book update:  24 September 2018

So our little project to print a simple book of photographs from our collection, to commemorate 50 years of the Kaikoura Historical Society, has thrown up some interesting, curious and at times exciting, challenges. We had hoped to launch it at our anniversary picnic in October but due to some copyright and naming matters this will take a bit longer meaning we have had to delay the design, and printing elements We also found a box of unscanned, unmarked glass plate negatives and who knows what gems may be discovered in there (that was the exciting challenge!). Thank you all who have donated towards this project, be assured that money will still go towards the photo book once we have got to that stage. We will keep you posted with our progress. Steph
