Kuwaha Gateway at Te Puna Quarry Park
Bay of Plenty
The kuwaha gateway will be erected at the entrance to the eastern bush area at Te Puna Quarry Park. It will stand 3.45m tall and will be a wonderful addition to the Park, creating a meaningful and permanent connection between the land and its heritage. The illustration from the carver, Morris Wharekawa, shows the top part of the kuwaha gateway. This will be of great cultural significance to local people and visitors alike.
Approved by the committee of Te Puna Quarry Park Society, we are very keen to see this project become a reality. We see it as culturally important.
Providing a magical place everyone can enjoy, where people can exercise, appreciate outdoor sculptures, enjoy the gardens and views. Children with their parents or their school group love this place, where they can learn about butterflies and frogs and plants. People can perform, get married or have a picnic. We are making a wonderful community asset.
Funds will be used to pay for the carving and installation of the kuwaha gateway at Te Puna Quarry Park
