Nationwide
A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 6.4 magnitude aftershock rocked Myanmar on 28th March, 2025.
This is another cruel blow for children who were already suffering through conflict, extreme poverty and displacement, before this natural disaster struck.
The quake damage has been severe, with buildings collapsed and roads destroyed. Latest reports indicate more than 1,600 people have been killed, and over 3,400 injured. Our teams are on the ground in affected areas, assessing the impact and supporting the emergency response, but we need your help.
While the situation continues to evolve, our emergency response will shift and scale up to meet the needs of those affected. UNICEF has been in Myanmar since 1950 and we'll stay and deliver for children through this current emergency, while continuing to support families with ongoing humanitarian assistance.
Myanmar is now in its fourth year of escalating conflict, and millions of children are already living in fear, displacement, and deepening poverty. These earthquakes come on top of an already dire situation for struggling families.
Children are being impacted by multiple crises, including natural disasters, disease outbreaks, food insecurity, inflation, loss of livelihoods, electricity shortages, interrupted or limited Internet and telecommunications services, and disrupted public services.
The people of Myanmar need our generous support at this critical time.
When the world’s most vulnerable kids need hope, UNICEF is there as the world’s leading children’s charity.
We're providing critical WASH supplies, including hygiene kits, soap, water purification chemicals, water storage containers and water filters, to local WASH partners to distribute in the affected regions.
