Nationwide
While organisations like the Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity do a good work receiving donated goods and selling them in their stores - the families most in need, often-times, do not have the funds or means of transport to use such services an get the items home.
Our charity has a 'Community Needs' Project, which includes the 'Winter Needs' Project. We collect donated items, like beds, cots, bedding, drapes, carpet, underfelt, insulation, heaters, dehumidifiers, whiteware, furniture, kitchenware, food, clothing and footwear, for resort and delivery directly to the homes of struggling families, most in need.
All items are free to the families and so is delivery.
We are working with Health Service Providers, who inform us of who the families are that need our service.
Our projects benefits the families because they not only receive essential need items, but they feel that we truly understand and genuinely care about their situation.
As we visit the homes of these families we see and feel the relief in their faces. They are truly grateful for the help given and many are moved to tears when we tell them that it is our pleasure and joy to help them.
As we are on their property, this relaxes them and they want to talk about matters that concern them.
Currently, we are carrying out the 'Winter Needs' Project. This aims to help families:
- be more comfortable, warmer, drier, healthier and happier over winter
- less stressed and anxious
and we hope it contributes to fewer children ending up in hospital over winter.
With confidentiality protocols in place we are able to interview individuals and families, who are recipients of the items, keep records and share data where appropriate.
In measuring the communities response to the 'Winter Needs' Project, it is very telling. All the families who have donated items, feel strongly that families that struggle most in our community, especially over winter, be able to access and receive items for free when the don't have the money to purchase themselves.
