OnWORD! A youth bikepacking journey from Wellington to Wānaka
WORD- Saving the world, one ride at a time.
While WORD was born in Wellington, it was only a matter of time before the stars aligned to launch in another region....Wānaka here we come! In December 2021, ten original WORD young people (6 girls and 4 guys- now 17-22 years old) will embark on an epic 1000km fully self-supported bikepacking trip from Wellington to Wānaka to celebrate, we call it OnWORD. This trip is organised and self funded by the young people. With your help, we will be able to make a film of our journey to showcase at film festivals around the world. OnWORD will also be presented to schools around Aotearoa with workshops to help inspire young people to have adventures in their own backyards.
About us
Founded in 2013, World Off-road Riding Department is a youth mountain bike charity based in Wellington, Wānaka, and Ōtautahi, Aotearoa providing amazing life changing term programmes and holiday camps for kids age 7-17 years old.
Use of funds
We need your help to raise funds to help with filming and editing. 'OnWORD' will be the first bikepacking film that captures young people and we look forward to screening it at film festivals around the world as well as schools in Aotearoa.
