We're raising funds to help get Oskar (and Ali) to Israel to participate in brain and learning therapy at the Feuerstein Therapy Centre.
Canterbury
Oskar is a bright and charming teenager and he needs your help to get him to Israel for life-changing brain and learning therapy.
Oskar was born with Down’s Syndrome and had a terrifying start to life. At 3 days old, Oskar caught a necrotising (flesh eating) infection which destroyed 3/4 of his large intestine. He needed 2 major surgeries and 6 weeks on life support. The prognosis was not good.
But Oskar won. He beat the medical odds and is able to eat and enjoy food - and life.
But the big problem is, Oskar is just not learning to his considerable potential. Despite being able to drop-kick a tennis ball, invent recipes (Chocolate Mango Pie anyone?), and sing along to his favourite Beatles songs, Oskar is terrified of school, learning and all things academic.
Some people might think, well he’s got Down’s and that’s that. But we just can’t give up on him or his potential. We have been searching for a therapy that will help Oskar learn, so that he can realise his dreams and live a full and happy life. And, as is often the case in life, when you look hard enough you will find.
The Feuerstein Therapy Centre in Jerusalem, Israel (http://www.icelp.info) have been providing brain and learning therapy to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and brain injuries for 40 years.
They have achieved amazing results, helping young people to turn their lives around with this therapy.
Oskar has the opportunity to go for 6 weeks for this therapy, in Jerusalem, in May 2016.
The therapy and trip will costs $28,000 with Oskar;s parents Ali and Wolfi committed to meeting whatever costs are not able to be met through Give a Little and fundraising. We are fund raising – quiz night, a disco, 's selling produce at the market and more, but we need help.
Please help if you can. Any amount will go a long way towards building a brighter and happier future for Oskar.
As Oskar's uncle and aunty, I am glad to be able to be able to assist in giving him this great opportunity.
