We need help from the community to rebuild our playground to enable our children to get outdoors and have fun.
Waikato
Our playground is dated and not designed in a way that promotes or encourages the children we support to 'go out and have fun'. Safety criteria have also changed. We want to build a place that enables and invites play for children who find movement challenging. We need a more sheltered deck area so that children with fragile health, who may not be able to regulate their body temperature, can be outside whilst being protected from strong sun (heat) and wind (cold).
Our facility was established through fundraising. The funding we receive via government to provide a service has remained static across a long period of 10 years, and does not enable repairs or maintenance. This is always an ongoing challenge that requires fundraising.
Our service was established by families for families. Initiated as a Charitable Trust, Conductive Education Waikato Trust has been providing a holistic approach (looking at the whole child) to learning for children with motor disorders for over 27 years. The service has broadened to provide a full Early Intervention support for families and children from birth to 6 years of age, and a follow up service for children up to 12 years (GMFCS 1 & 2), when there has been difficulty with physical development due to a neurological incident.
Many children who have suffered an injury to the brain, or whose development has been affected in utero, during birth or after birth, may also require support for feeding, communication, speech, vision, hearing, learning, behaviour, daily life skills and social communication. Our range of therapists and specialists work to support the family and aid the child to learn and develop to their full potential. We then support the child and the family on to the next step in life, transition to school.
Conductive Education Waikato Trust was formed in November 1991 by a group of families who sought additional support for their children. The children were diagnosed with a range of physical disabilities, and sometimes additional cognitive/sensory impairments, due to neurological injury occuring before, during or after birth. This inhibited the children's engagement in day to day activities, including family life and learning.
The families learnt of an approach that taught children new skills (habilitation) toward achieving levels of independence. Following a visit to the Peto Institute in Hungary, Conductive Education was brought to New Zealand.
Conductive Education programmes continue to be provided for children in the Waikato region under this Charitable Trust, and parents continue to govern and advocate for other families and children to achieve provision of a high quality early intervention service.
Your donation will help our service to extend our support for children as early as possible and fund additional equipment for use in our centre and in the family home.
All funds raised will contribute directly to the rebuild. $100k is the minimum required. If we are fortunate to raise more funds it will enable us to install a greater range of equipment (each piece is very expensive)
Thank you so much!!! Really appreciate your support. kind regards Sharon @ Conductive Education
