Raising Money to Build a Playground for a School in one of the Poorest Areas of Nepal

If you ever fly into Kathmandu airport, look out of the right hand side of the plane as you come in to land. If it is a clear day, then you will will be able to see a little slum area and, just behind it, Deeya Shree School. The school provides free education to the children who live in this area. I am raising funds to help build a playground for the children who attend the school.

Deeya Shree school itself is run by Keshab. I can honestly say that Keshab is one of the most honest, generous, altruistic and kind-hearted people you could ever wish to meet. He does a fantastic job of educating the children in difficult circumstances.

The school has developed leaps and bounds in recent years. Comparing some of the older photographs to the more recent ones you can see that the walls have been painted and that the electricity is working (almost) constantly. In 2019 we were able to raise funds to help expand the school and create some extra buildings for the students: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/expansion-of-school-providing-free-education

In 2021, we created a computer lab at the school with the help of a NZ based charity called 'EduTech Nepal'. This helped the students to gain access to computers and obtain valuable IT skills: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/building-a-computer-lab-for-students-in-one

The purpose of this Give A Little page is to help raise approximately $4,400 USD = $7,180 NZD required to build a playground at the school.

I spent some time teaching mathematics at the school back in 2014. I have visited several times since then and have helped them raise money for various projects. Once received, funds will be transferred to Keshab.

Construction of Playground Complete  25 April 2024

Hi All,

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for contributing to the construction of the playground. Keshab informs me that its building is now complete and he has received all the funds we raised. I've put some pictures of the completed playground in the gallery. You can also watch a short video of the children using it.

Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who contributed. You generosity has truly been astounding.

Best Wishes,

Adam, Keshab and everyone at the school
