ROC Trust want to empower young refugees to produce their own music. Can you help us?
Hamilton, Waikato
The Refugee Orientation Centre (ROC) Trust is looking at kickstarting a new initiative to support refugee rangatahi with an interest in making music. This project would focus on the recording, producing, and mixing side of music creation.
Rangatahi would bring their skills (e.g. vocals, keys, guitar) and interests (e.g. jazz, rap, mixing) and be connected with opportunities to learn how to record, mix, master, and produce using analog and digital technology. Ideally they will develop sufficient knowledge in these areas to be able to go through the whole process of making a song, from the beginning ideas to the final mastered track.
In order to get this off the ground, we need to purchase some basic equipment for this project. This includes items like an audio interface, microphones, basic instruments, and recording software. We have received generous funding already from MusicHelps, and we're seeking your support to help us get started. Please also get in touch with eli@roctrust.org.nz if you may have some equipment to donate, such as instruments, mics, or even cables.
ROC's Mission and Vision
ROC Trust has been supporting refugees resettling in Kirikiriroa Hamilton for nearly 20 years. We have also widened our circle of support to migrants in need of support, too. Our desire is to empower refugees and migrants to thrive in their integration into New Zealand life. We are a registered charitable trust, CC22546. You can visit our website https://www.roctrust.org.nz.
ROC Trust has become a strong pillar of support to refugees from 9 countries for 19 years. We encourage a culture of acceptance, love, and growth, so that former refugees can become self-sufficient and independent in Aotearoa New Zealand.
