$20k needed to save New Chum Beach/Wainuiototo from development
Save New Chum Beach/Wainuiototo - One of the world's top 10 wilderness beaches

We (Preserve New Chum for Everyone Inc) believe that New Chum/Wainuiototo is special, a 'taonga' (treasure), which should remain undeveloped and pristine for future generations. We have been battling to save this beach from development since 2010, but the fight continues...
In June 2023, we head to the High Court in Hamilton to oppose proposed changes to the Thames Coromandel District Plan which includes 25 new house sites - 11 in the New Chum/Wainuiototo catchment and 14 in the Whangapoua catchment. This court case is an appeal relating to an 2019 Environment Court hearing.
We are raising funds to pay for legal representation. Although we were recently granted $10,000 by ELA towards our legal costs, we are still $20,000 short.
Please dig deep to save this beautiful wilderness beach from development.

WOW!!! We had an incredible response to our appeal and we have now REACHED OUR TARGET. Thank you so much for your generous donations to help preserve this special place. We could never have made it without your support.
Our High Court appearance is now over and we were ably represented by our Barrister, Rob Enright. We expect a decision to be released by the end of the year.
