NRT graduate, William, needs your help to dance on the international stage - at the IASF Worlds, held in Orlando, Florida, April 2018
Auckland
We are so proud to be fundraising for William! Please help us celebrate his talent and all his hard work in the last few years by funding William to get to the World Dance Champs as leader of his dance crew, Kryptic.
Supported by his dance studio dance24seven,17-year-old William is responsible for choreographing, teaching and running all aspects of Kryptic. This is a huge opportunity for any dancer let alone someone as young as William.
William came to NRT when he was just 12 years old and struggling to stay on a positive path. We worked with William and his whānau for over two years, providing support and opportunities to explore and realise his potential. With NRT, William participated in Art ACTion exhibitions at Mangere Arts Centre and Studio One, exhibited at as part of The Sole Project, acted in short films, and performed spoken word and music tracks in two separate seasons of Manawa Ora.
During his time with NRT William found his creative voice, and when he successfully accepted back into school he followed his passion for creativity into dance. Since then he has gained his NCEA Level 1 and 2, and even gained a Certificate of Excellence at prize-giving this year! Tu meke.
At NRT we support our young people for as long as they need, with whatever they need. William may not need our projects anymore (as he is so super successful at school!) but he needs our networks. It gives us so much pride to imagine one of our rangatahi travelling internationally, doing their creative thing.
William, and those around him have worked very, very hard to get to this point. We want to get him to the next stage - with your amazing help!
Ngā Rangatahi Toa is a wāhine Māori-led, not-for-profit that engages with vulnerable Māori and Pasifika rangatahi from low socio-economic areas of Tāmaki Makaurau. Our mission revolves around building protective factors, resilience, and fostering well-being practices within these communities.
We guide these rangatahi through a portfolio of projects that combine creative exploration with youth development strategies, housed within the indigenous framework of Te Ao Māori (The world of Māori).
Our strength based and solution focused programs, scaffolds rangatahi through a process of rangatiratanga (leadership empowerment), kotahitanga (connected - togetherness) and mauri (life force - wellbeing) to support our rangatahi to become thriving, active members of their whānau and their communities.
All funds raised will go directly to costs associated with airfares, accommodation and transfers.
William has dedicated himself to raising his own spending money, taking on the teaching of more dance classes over the summer holiday from school, at dance24seven. He has danced here for over two years and is a valued member of staff
