Join me in supporting the Samaritans this Christmas.
Wellington
Did you know that Wellington Samaritans is based in an underground crypt beneath St Paul's Cathedral in Thorndon? Thousands of Wellingtonians have volunteered from the crypt since we moved in in 1965. There are no windows or natural light; our volunteers literally work underground and they deserve a better environment to work in as they help callers to our helpline.
We'll be putting donations from our Christmas Appeal towards renovating the crypt, most of which hasn't been renovated for over 57 years. This is your unique opportunity to play a role in improving the working conditions of Samaritans' volunteers for the next 57 years. Our volunteers are there for our callers in their dark times, so let's reward their commitment and improve the space where they operate.
Bowen Trust has agreed to match all donations (up to $5,000), so please donate now, and your donation will literally double in size. Thank you.
Join us for Wellington's Walk for Mental Health, around Wellingtons iconic Cello Basin Reserve, on Saturday 15th February 2025.
We are raising vital funds for Samaritans Wellington and the Lifting the Lid on Youth Mental Health Project in Wellington.
There are many ways we could improve the crypt if we had the money. We have a basic renovation plan, including lighting, electrics, painting, plastering, carpet, furniture, blinds, etc.
A huge Samaritans' thank you for donating 20 December 2022
Thank you to the 37 very generous donors who have donated to our Christmas Appeal so far. We've received a vast range of donations - some as large as $500.
It brings us considerable joy to know that people care about our work and want to support what we do.
There's still over $1,500 in our matching fund, so please share our Givealittle page with your network of friends, family and colleagues. Every dollar from every donor will be doubled until we reach $5,000 - thanks to the Bowen Trust.
