Help us replace NZ Reggae Legend's guitar! Tigilau Ness was teaching at a community parenting course when his famous guitar was taken.
Nationwide
Legendary reggae performer Tigilau Ness has used the guitar for many community services and causes for more than 15 years
Tigi says that the guitar has "great sentimental and creative value" with composing and performing his heart-felt songs. His son Che Fu played the same guitar during his time with the band 'Supergroove'
In the past seven years he's used it in the work with fathers and children at the Mangere East community Centre's parenting programmes, where his melodies have been especially effective in soothing autistic children. Tigi and his guitar have been crowd favourites at the Mangere East community festivals for many years.
Tigi says that although our "community is under threat from those who would prey on the vulnerable" he believes that "together we can stop" anti-social behaviour like thieving.
Even after 2 months of appeals we still hope that the guitar will be returned. However, if that isn't to be we as a community want to at least replace the guitar as a symbol of our appreciation and respect to a man who has given so much to many during his lifetime.
Tigi continues to facilitate parenting courses in the Mangere East community every Monday, let's all chip in and bring back the music by replacing Tigi's Ovation guitar.
Mangere East ACCESS Trust is a charitable trust who operate the Mangere East Community Centre. We coordinate a vibrant parenting hub in Mangere and Tigi has been a valued fathers mentor and group facilitator here for almost 10 years.
We feel sad that the guitar was taken and want to do something about it.
The Mangere East Community Centre is run by the Mangere East ACCESS Trust. A charitable organisation set up in 1997 to serve people living in the Mangere East community.
Our organisation focuses on enriching peoples lives & meeting community needs. To do this we have a dedicated team who manage the centre & lead our programmes & services. We have 9 staff & 2 volunteers. We pride ourselves in offering high quality evidence-based programmes & services. We have a number of long term strategic partners who we share resources, expertise & administration support.
The grants we receive enable us to run a vibrant & busy community centre & make it accessible to everyone.
Funds will be used to purchase a guitar for Tigilau Ness to replace the one that was taken.
Any funds left over will go to supporting Tigi's musical creativity and song writing
His new guitar will be enjoyed by communities across Aotearoa and benefit NZ Music as a whole through the music he writes.
