COVID has done it again! Please read update below, for the changes to my run plan on September 5th. When there is a will there is a way!!

Nationwide

Dear friends,

As Founder and GM of this beautiful Trust, I have been asked to share my story of inspiration. As a runner for 30 odd years, I have never needed any inspiration to run. My passion has always been there. So much to the point, that I ran so much, I had an an ankle replacement in 2012! Living in the South Island next to the lakeside tracks, I am now able to run a little more, without compromising my new ankle.

Given the opportunity to raise funds for Race4Life by running half marathon at the Northshore Marathon event, has made me focus on not one, but all 500 patients whose wishes we have fulfilled over the last 6 years. Our work is truly beautiful and we as a Trust are privy to the very best of humanity, as we facilitate these wishes for patients and their families. Communities all over New Zealand do all they can to help make dreams come true.

We lost 31 patients last year, whose wishes were not fulfilled due to Covid 19 restrictions. We do not want the same to happen again this year, due to lack of funds.

We do so need your support. Please donate/sponsor me as I meander my way around the North Shore of Auckland on September 5th. Bear in mind that we are doing this to help create cherished memories in the hearts of all; patients, families and communities throughout New Zealand.

About us

The aim of Race4LifeTrust is to facilitate events for Palliative Care patients. These events connect patient family and community. Despite shutting down the individualised wish service, due to the impact of COVID the focus of the RACE4LIFE trust has continued by shifting to solely hold events with the aim of reaching the lives of as many palliative care patients as possible. The Hampton Downs Track Day event (which is where the Race4Life started) has continued to be run, and has become totally self-sufficient over 15 years. This has enabled the trust to continue to provide special MAGIC among the 600 people who attend.

The Trust has now built this event into a series of similar events and have subsequently replicated this model on the South Island at Teretonga Motor Sport Park in Invercargill, albeit a much smaller event. Plus in October 2024, the inaugural Central NZ Track Day event will take place at Manfeild Chris Amon Circuit in Palmerston North, with an estimated 450 people, expected to attend.

Use of funds

CHANGE OF PLANS  26 August 2021

Posted by: Vivienne James

The North Shore Marathon has been cancelled, however, I have decided to still raise money for this awesome Trust. I will map out the distance I intended to run in the event, around my local area. On September 5th, I will run that distance in my own neighbourhood. You can support me and the Race4Life Team by donating. In doing so, you will help create cherished memories in the hearts of all; patients, families and communities nationwide.

Thank you!
