10kms for Ben May
Epilepsy awareness - Honouring Ben May and his campaign before his tragic death.
Before Ben’s tragic death in August 2020, he had been planning a campaign. A strong advocate for epilepsy, Ben wanted to raise awareness about the condition, as well as funds for a charity close to him, Epilepsy New Zealand.
Honouring his legacy and the plans he had started, Ben’s family decided that💜 Purple Day - World Epilepsy Awareness Day (or the Saturday nearest to it) would be dedicated to Ben and his campaign.
Our #10kmsforbenmay event asks that everyone who wants to be involved to:
Walk/run/swim/skip/bike 10km.
Post a photo of their challenge on our #10kmsforbenmay Instagram or Facebook account.
Donate anything that can be spared to Epilepsy New Zealand.
This year our event is being held on 💜Saturday 23rd March 2024. 💜
You can join in and complete your 10kms from anywhere in the world!

This event reminds us how loved Ben was and is🕊️🤍. How family, friends and those we’ve not even met, choose to come together for him.
As a family, carrying on Ben’s legacy is an honour we take very seriously.
In the weeks and months leading up to this annual event, on the day and for a time after, many conversations are had about Ben and his legacy. And we love that.
Epilepsy New Zealand will be delighted as donations raised to date are more than $2300! Ben would be so thrilled!
