One year ago, on the morning of February 24th, Russia started an aggressive invasion of Ukraine, and for 12 months now Ukraine has fiercely defended its independency and freedom.
Schools, hospitals, homes bombed to pieces, families torn apart, children left without parents, people left with lifelong disabilities; the destruction caused to infrastracture is massive, the loss and trauma caused to people unfathomable.
It’s where one can witness the worst of humanity
– and the best.
Kiwi KARE (Kiwi Aid and Refugee Evacuation) operates in Ukraine delivering food, sanitari products and nappies, medicine, medical equipment, trauma kits, defibrillators and evacuation services for internally displaced people from troubled areas.
On February 24th I will be spending 24 hours continuously walking the loop track on Bluff Hill, Invercargill, to raise money for Kiwi KARE and remind us all of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the dire need of solidarity and kindness in the world that often can be divided to so many different camps.

I’ll be starting at 10am on Friday the 24th and finishing 10 am on Saturday the 25th.
Up Topuni Track, down Millenium track and back along the coast. Approximately 2hrs +- 30min.
Dressing up in yellow and blue encouraged!

It's been more than a month since the fundraiser but the kindness and generosity of people keeps leaving me in awe. You've donated nearly $3400 altogether which is absolutely incredible and I can not thank you all enough for showing solidarity and making this world a bit better a place through your kindness and selfless acts.
Tenby and his team at Kiwi KARE keep on working hard in Ukraine supporting and helping the people who are living through the nightmare that this war is.
It brings light to the darkness knowing that a year on people still care and keep on standing with Ukraine - and we must keep on doing so.
