Everesting for Lifeline - 8,848 vertical metres on a bike

$10,883 of $10,000 goal
Given by 199 generous donors in around 4 months

I'll be riding a bike a total of 8,848 vertical metres to raise money for Lifeline, a vitally important service in our community.

Auckland

Lifeline is a free community helpline which support people in the midst of crisis. Despite the vital work they do in our community actively preventing suicide and providing support at people's times of need, they exist solely through public donations.

As a youth health nurse I am regularly directing the young people I work with to their phone lines for support. I've also lost too many friends to suicide over the past few years. This fundraiser is in memory of my friends lives.

I will be attempting an 'Everesting' on my bicycle, by riding up and down Maungawhau/Mt Eden until I've cycled up the equivalent height of Mt Everest (8,848 verticle metres) on the 10th of March 2018.

If you're feeling stink and need someone to talk to Lifeline is there 24/7 - 0800 543 354

Tomorrow is the big day!  9 March 2018

Massive, huge thank-yous to everyone who has donated to this very important service. At the time of writing 99 people have made donations towards Lifeline! That is a huge level of support, and will be what encourages me when times get tough on this mammoth cycling challenge ahead of me tomorrow.

I've just gotten back to my offices at the youth health clinic after doing a quick interview and a bit of action shots for The Project on TV3. So tune in at 7pm, and keep your eyes opened for my navy and orange lycra as it speeds across your screen and up Maungawhau/Mt Eden.

Now is a great time to start sharing the link to this Givealittle page to all your networks, friends, and family. The fundraising page finishes up on the 14th of March, so still a bit of time after I've completed the Everesting to collect some final donations.

If you live in the Auckland area feel free to come back and cheer on sometime during the day tomorrow. I'll be starting out at 5am, and it's likely to take me around 18 hours I suspect to complete the full 8,848 vertical metres. There will definitely be tough times climbing that hill, so having some cheering from the sidelines on the steep bits would be a massive lift.

Thanks again for all the massive support everyone has shown to this.

See you at the top!

xMikey
