The Race4Life Trust fulfills the wishes of adult New Zealanders in palliative care.
Auckland
Working with palliative care patients has taught us the value of living in the moment, which is one of the beautiful gifts of having a dying wish granted. A wish creates memorable experiences for patients and their whānau, improves emotional wellbeing and creates a sense of peace. To discover some of our patient’s heartwarming wishes, please visit us on Facebook and Website.
Over 500 New Zealanders have had their dying wish granted by Race4Life. However, the pandemic forced us to downsize and limit the wishes we could grant. The current cost of living crisis has also placed significant pressure on our ability to deliver wishes, as wish costs have doubled since 2019. Businesses, previously relied on to donate the majority of a wish cost, are simply not able to give as they did pre-pandemic.
Through our work with hospices to raise awareness of our service, we are seeing a steady increase in applications. We currently have 25 patients waiting for their wish to come true. Your contribution will ensure that the wishes of these brave New Zealanders can be granted and the growing demand for wishes can be met.
Our aim to raise $15,000 will enable 15 patients with a life limiting illness to realise their dreams, give them something to look forward to and provide a distraction from the difficulties of their palliative journey and medical treatments. By supporting a wish, you not only help the patient, but also help to create beautiful and lasting memories for the patient’s loved ones.
The aim of Race4LifeTrust is to enable people, living with life limiting illness, to realise dreams that they, and their families can cherish. Our mission is to seek to provide people, with the means to fulfil their wishes.
